Ever heard of microformats? If not, you will soon. It?s basically a way to take information about people, places, or events, and make them recognizable to web browsers and applications so they can do something with it. For example: If you tag your contact information (using the hCard format), then someone clicking on it can instantly add you to their address book, or find you in Google Maps. If you tag an event (using hCalendar), then someone clicking on (such as from eventful.com) it could

I am a big Google fan but one of the things that is seriously tempting me away to Yahoo is the SearchMonkey Application Platform. Online search is starting to undergo big changes and Yahoo, for once, is leading the charge. Google on the other hand is doing things in dribs and drabs by bringing out little things a bit at a time. Don?t get me wrong, what Google is giving us is good but when you stack it up against Yahoo?s SearchMonkey, it doesn?t start to compare. The next stage of the web is a

Today I began to put Microformats in my blog and installed the operator extension into Firefox to see and work with microformats. I was astonished that blogger has put a little bit of microformat into my blog already. Using operator or a similar tool you can now work on the tags, export events and contact information. This is a nice start. Next I want services specifications; either XRDS (simple) or Microsoft's openservices?! Please notice the green cross and the new "operator" toolbar.

There is a lot of debate about the definition of Web 3.0. Some proposals include: 3d browsing, increased bandwidth, and artificial intelligence. There seems to be consensus that Web 3.0 will include the semantic web. Instead of just a web of human-readable pages of text, imagine if the info on the web could also be easily parsed for meaningful data. The data could be both human and machine readable, with meaningful relationships easy to discern. current events, future, information architecture

Last week at the SemTech 2008 Conference that took place in San Jose, Yahoo! Researcher Peter Mika spoke in detail about the company's new SearchMonkey search platform initiative. Mika talked broadly about his work looking at metadata on the web, and how that led to the birth of SearchMonkey. This post is based on notes from that talk. History of Web Page Annotations The motivating question for Mika's presentation was: How can we make web search better by leveraging web annotation? There are m
